From the heart

From the heart

We are often asked where Leskol comes from. Well, it’s a little known fact that Leskol is made by Wyke Farms – in the heart of Cheddar country, in Somerset.

Wyke Farms has remained in the same family for over one hundred years. To this day we use the same unique recipe as our Grandmother Ivy Clothier. We continue to win more awards at National and International cheese shows than any other brand.

So why create a half fat Cheddar alternative? Good question. But we have a simple answer. Five years ago, the current Chairman of Wyke Farms John Clothier, son of Ivy, was diagnosed with having high cholesterol. John was told to change his lifestyle and adjust his diet.

Unbeknown to John, his son Richard set about creating an alternative recipe… something to replace his everyday favourite, Mature Cheddar. The process was exhaustive. Trial and error followed trial and error until one day – one of the test recipes yielded a flavour that was so close to everyday Cheddar that even John, a notorious cheese connoisseur, was impressed.

Over the following 18months the formula was refined continually until it became consistently impressive. It’s amazing low saturated fat content and low cholesterol became it’s unique proposition. Less Cholesterol Cheddar became Leskol.

So Leskol Half Fat really is a labour of love. Made for the family, by a family – now sold nationwide for your whole family, so you too can enjoy the same peace of mind that comes from eating something very special indeed.
